What are the problems marine engineers solve on board?


Marine engineers are involved with the operation, maintenance and repair of the main propulsion engines and auxiliary machinery and systems found in all kinds of ships, boats installations.

Inspect marine equipment and machinery, and draw up work requests and job specifications. Conduct environmental, operational, or performance tests on marine machinery and equipment.







The engineer officer's task is to supervise and manage the work in the vessel's engine room. The duties include the supervision, maintenance and repair of the ship machinery as well as the fuel and lubricant replenishments.


The day-to-day tasks of a marine engineer center on inspecting equipment and structures, planning and prioritizing assignments, and providing consultation to others. You can expect to conduct tests on equipment to ensure everything is functioning properly and meeting with quality control standards.

The Chief Engineer, as well as the 2nd Engineer is a key member of the on-board crew, overseeing the entire marine engineering department on the vessel and responsible for the maintenance and operation of all engineering equipment on-board the vessel.


3rd Engineers carry out maintenance of specific equipment as assigned. They control, and participate in the operation, maintenance and repair of machinery as directed. They are also required to carry out engine room watchkeeping duties.
