Have you ever experienced to want to clean the filter of the sea chest on engine room, but when you have closed both valves before and after the strainer, and while openning the air vent cock, to see if the valves are isolating or not, to notice that the sea water flow is not stopping?
This meaning that if we open at this moment the cover of the filter, the engine room bilges are going to be flooded with sea water. So, what we must do, if we want the filter to be cleaned ?
The procedure is as follows :
1. We want to clean the right side sea chest strainer, so we have left in operation the left side.
Both strainer have suction from the same common sea canal, and both have one inner and outtervalves.
2. We observe that the the outter valve of the right sea chest is not isolating, because we have also closed the inner valve and we see that sea water flow is not stopping from the air vent cock.
3. Leave running only one sea water pump, and observe its discharge pressure. It must be reading about 2.1 bars.
4. Start closing the inner valve of the left filter (the operating one), and at the same time start opening the inner valve of the right filter (the one we want to clean), and at the same time observe the pressure discharge of the running pump and the flow of the air vent cock of the right filter.

5. We proceed with ster step 4 continiously until we notice that the pressure is going to drop at 1.6 bars about and that the flow from the air vent that has stopped.
This meaning that at this time, it is safe to open the cover and clean the right filter.

DeleteAt 1:14 minute of the video, the first yellow arrow and the note "start closing" should be marked by the video creator on the left strainer, to follow the correct thing that is said by the narrator. It is just a typo mistake. What is saying the narrator is the correct one. And after that, the second yellow arrow and the note "start opening" should be marked on the drawing on the right strainer, excactly again what is saying the narrator.
